Private Elementary School

Our private elementary school offers smaller class sizes, degreed teachers and a lot of creativity. Whether it is in the class, in our school garden or on the playground, our students are always learning. Every detail of our program is designed to enhance these opportunities.

Our classroom walls are painted a calming sage green to create a calm and relaxing learning environment. Our hallways are painted a warm beige with a rich brown trim to encourage conversation and to make everyone feel welcome. Classical music fills our hallways to increase brain activity. Each student is greeted every morning with a smile, and the day starts with prayer. We ask God to help us clear our minds, relax our bodies, and to prepare us for learning something new.

Throughout the day, many students will see a Speech, Occupational or Behavioral Therapist. Some will attend sessions of Interactive Metronome, a computer based cognitive therapy. Still others may visit our Listening Program room to spend time listening to specially filtered music with nature sounds through surround sound headphones. All of these interventions are designed to strengthen cognitive skills, like the ability to focus and attend over time.

Our warm lunches are provided by a local caterer and served with purified water or low sugar fruit juice. Nutrition is an important part of a strong academic plan. We know that unless we give our bodies proper nutrition, it impedes our ability to focus and retain what we learn in class.

Educational field trips are planned throughout the year to enhance learning. In addition, we have started a garden area where students will learn how to prepare the soil, plant seed, nurture the plant and harvest the fruits and vegetables they grow. Plans are underway for a butterfly garden and birdhouse area.

"The school-choice issue is not about public versus private; it's about choice. It's about knowing what works well for my family and being able to make that choice for them." -- Parent of a McKay Scholarships Student
